Although flaxseed flour contains all kinds of healthy components, it owes its primary healthy reputation to three of them: omega-3 essential fatty acids, lignins and fiber. Each tablespoon of flaxseed meal contains around 1.8 grams of plant omega-3s. Lignins have estrogenic and antioxidant qualities. Flaxseed contains 75 to 80 times more lignins than other plant foods.
Flaxseed is high in dietary fiber, containing both soluble and insoluble types. It is also a powerful natural cholesterol controller. Only freshly ground linseed flour can preserve the natural oils and nutrients.
