An insecticide is prepared from the ground and micronized neem leaves. Tea is also made to treat ulcers, intestinal parasites and liver diseases; it reduces fever caused by malaria. They can also be used as green manure or mulch (when decomposed, they improve the soil).
The young, raw leaves are edible – they are rich in protein, calcium, iron and vitamin A; mixed with black pepper they are excellent for fighting intestinal parasites.
